AP ® ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE A/B

Prerequisites: Two years of high school laboratory science, including life science and physical science, along with at least one year of algebra    

Description: The AP Environmental Science course is designed to engage students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships within the natural world. The course requires that students identify and analyze natural and human-made environmental problems, evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them. Environmental science is interdisciplinary, embracing topics from geology, biology, environmental studies, environmental science, chemistry, and geography. The AP Environmental Science course is designed to be the equivalent of a one-semester, introductory college course in environmental science.

It is important to learn how to critically think and solve problems, which can further be applied to making informed decisions about your own life. The program consists of in-depth online lessons including extensive animations, collaborative explorations, and hands-on laboratory experiments students can conduct at home.

Description: This course provides a comprehensive survey of all key areas: atomic structure, chemical bonding and reactions, solutions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, and more. The course uses a storyline structure that connects to real-world phenomena, and answers questions like: How can we slow the flow of energy on Earth to protect vulnerable coastal communities?; What causes lightning and why are some places sager than others when it strikes?; How could we find and use the resources we need to live beyond Earth?; Why are oysters dying, and how can we use chemistry to protect them?; and Which fuels should we design our next generation vehicles to use?

Course Description: Have you taken Forensic Science 1 and want to dig even deeper into Forensic Science/CSI? Expand your learning with Forensic Science 2. This class picks up where Forensic Science 1 leaves off. We explore additional evidence types, including some of the "grosser" ones, like decomposition, entomology, and blood spatter. Additional topics include DNA, blood spatter, toxicology, and physical trauma. As in Forensic Science 1, we also tie these topics to real-world cases through our case studies.

Instruction highlights the key systems and stakeholders involved in high-performance buildings and the wide range of jobs and skills needed across green industries. Students also explore how businesses are adapting to increased demand for sustainable products and services and consider potential career pathways in green building and related green sectors.

The course includes critical thinking exercise scenarios that involve patients and pathology so students can apply their knowledge to the real world.
