Course Description:  Using project-based learning, students will explore the basics of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.  Students will create documents that will enhance introductory skills such as manipulating text and images to create effective projects in both programs.  Students will understand the social and ethical issues surrounding the internet, information, and security. To be successful, students need to commit to the course timelines and guidelines.  Students will take the IC3 Certification.  This certification consists of three exams: Living Online, Computing Fundamentals, and Key Applications.

Personal Computers:  It is strongly recommended that students in this course use a Stride K12 issued computer exclusively for content in this course.

Note:  Dual credit can be earned for IT Security Awareness. Must Register with Madison College.

Course Description: This asynchronous course introduces students to the many ways printed products are created and used in the real world. Students explore different types of printing, including commercial printing, books and publications, packaging, signs, direct mail, and secure documents. The course explains how print shops are organized, how jobs move from design to finished product, and why accuracy and security matter. Students also learn how printed items are finished, delivered, and installed. The course highlights how printing adapts to new materials, technology, and everyday challenges.

Course Description: Discover how technology has changed the world around us by perusing technological solutions to everyday problems. While using the Scientific Method and the Engineering Design Process, learn how electricity, electronic systems, magnets, and circuits work. Understand the design process and bring your ideas to life. Explore various inventions and solutions that have solved problems across industries. Students will also use the Engineering Design Process and an Engineering Notebook to reverse engineer a product of their choice.

BASIC GRADE & CONSTRUCTION MATH (EM)

Course Length: Semester Course

Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Geometry and/or Integrated Math II

Course Description: This course helps students apply mathematical concepts and calculations using plansheets to better understand the construction process. Students trace the history of mathematics and examine systems of measurement used in construction. Instruction includes performing mathematical operations with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimal fractions. Emphasis is placed on accurate calculations and real-world application within construction contexts.

Notes: Completion of this course, along with Basic Equipment Fundamentals and Mobile Equipment Maintenance, at a C or better makes the student eligible for a Pre-Apprenticeship Certification endorsed by Local 139–International Union of Operating Engineers. / Completion of this course at a B or better can earn apprenticeship credit at Fox Valley Technical College.

Course Description: Focuses on the basic principles of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes. Through interpretation and sketching, students learn to visualize the part, section or assembly views. Students study isometric and orthographic views on a drawing. The student will also use drawings pertinent to the trades with examples in welding, facilities, piping, sheet metal, equipment manuals, electrical symbols, and fluid power symbols.

Course Description: This course introduces the concept of engineering to students. Starting with the history of engineering, students will learn how engineering has evolved and understand that the past plays a critical role in product improvement. Students will also be introduced to the Engineering Design Process to understand how it plays a vital role in the world of engineering. Lastly, students will investigate different focus areas of engineering to decide which subdiscipline could be of future interest to them.

Students learn how green building jobs and practices can impact climate change and study green energy, green agriculture, and green transportation systems, including emerging technologies such as water, wind, and solar power. Instruction highlights the key systems and stakeholders involved in high-performance buildings and the wide range of jobs and skills needed across green industries. Students also explore how businesses are adapting to increased demand for sustainable products and services and consider potential career pathways in green building and related green sectors.

Course Description: This semester-long course introduces students to four key skilled trades: Operating Engineer (Heavy Equipment Operator), Electrician, Pipefitter/Plumber, and Welder. The course emphasizes career exploration, hands-on learning through skill-based activities, and reflective portfolio development culminating in a student-choice capstone project. Students will build foundational knowledge of each trade, practice essential skills such as safety, math, communication, and blueprint reading, and engage in community-building activities. Throughout the course, students will document their learning, reflections, and career insights in a Career Exploration Portfolio that supports skill mastery and career planning.
