CHILD & FAMILY DEVELOPMENT 

Course Length:  9 weeks

Course Description: This course explores how children and families grow across different stages of life. We will examine the interactions between children and family systems, learn about the various stages and concepts of childhood development, and evaluate the cost of having a child. Through simple examples and real-life situations, students will gain a clearer understanding of how families work and what children need to grow up healthy and supported.

ROCKS & MINERALS

Course Length:  6 weeks

Credit: 0.25 

Grades: 9-12

Prerequisite(s): None 

Description:    This quarter-long course will give students the opportunity to investigate the rock cycle and rock identification; what is a mineral and mineral identification; and weathering and erosion principals.  The unit ends with the opportunity to apply gained knowledge to a real-world investigation of The Sphinx in Giza, Egypt, and the Statue of Liberty in New York City.

In this course, you will build on previous knowledge and learn how this field seeks to cure such deadly diseases as cancer and malaria, develop innovative medicine, and effectively feed the world through improved agricultural systems.
