Course Description: This course examines the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the construction industry and its impact on the workforce and worksites. Students explore the historical and social roots of underrepresentation of women and minorities, identify barriers to building a diverse and equitable construction workforce, and examine the role of cultural competence in individuals and organizations. Instruction addresses equal employment opportunity and non-discrimination rights while analyzing why gender matters in construction, including how health and safety issues are affected by gender-specific concerns. Students learn strategies to protect themselves and their co-workers and to promote equitable health and safety practices and policies in the workplace.
