Prerequisites: Success in Algebra II (or equivalent) and teacher/school counselor recommendation  

Course Description: AP Statistics gives students hands-on experience collecting, analyzing, graphing, and interpreting real-world data. They will learn to effectively design and analyze research studies by reviewing and evaluating real research examples taken from daily life. The next time they hear the results of a poll or study, they will know whether the results are valid. As the art of drawing conclusions from imperfect data and the science of real-world uncertainties, statistics plays an important role in many fields. The equivalent of an introductory college-level course, AP Statistics prepares students for the AP exam and for further study in science, sociology, medicine, engineering, political science, geography, and business.

Course Description: Discover how technology has changed the world around us by perusing technological solutions to everyday problems. While using the Scientific Method and the Engineering Design Process, learn how electricity, electronic systems, magnets, and circuits work. Understand the design process and bring your ideas to life. Explore various inventions and solutions that have solved problems across industries. Students will also use the Engineering Design Process and an Engineering Notebook to reverse engineer a product of their choice.

AP® MICROECONOMICS

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Algebra II

Course Description: This course is the equivalent of an introductory college-level course. Students explore the behavior of individuals and businesses as they exchange goods and services in the marketplace. Students learn why the same product can cost different amounts at different stores, in different cities, and at different times. Students also learn to spot patterns in economic behavior and learn how to use those patterns to explain buyer and seller behavior under various conditions. Lessons promote an understanding of the nature and function of markets, the role of scarcity and competition, the influence of factors such as interest rates on business decisions, and the role of government in the economy. Students prepare for the AP exam and for further study in business, history, and political science.

BASIC GRADE & CONSTRUCTION MATH

Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Geometry and/or Integrated Math II

Course Description: This course helps students apply mathematical concepts and calculations using plansheets to better understand the construction process. Students trace the history of mathematics and examine systems of measurement used in construction. Instruction includes performing mathematical operations with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimal fractions. Emphasis is placed on accurate calculations and real-world application within construction contexts.

Notes: Completion of this course, along with Basic Equipment Fundamentals and Mobile Equipment Maintenance, at a C or better makes the student eligible for a Pre-Apprenticeship Certification endorsed by Local 139–International Union of Operating Engineers. / Completion of this course at a B or better can earn apprenticeship credit at Fox Valley Technical College.

Course Description: This foundation course covers core concepts related to business strategy, marketing, operations and finance, as well as their interrelationships within an organization. Case studies and a computer business simulation are used to deepen student understanding. Corporate culture and the International dimension of business are also covered. An Ethics framework, which will be further explored in upper-level Program classes is introduced, along with a focus on the means businesses use to promote and enforce ethical behavior.

Note:   Students taking this course should be independent learners. Your teacher will be available during office hours to support you in your learning, but no formal instruction in a class setting is offered.
