Course Description:  Accounting 1 is the first semester of a two-semester course. This course teaches accounting while placing emphasis on conceptual understanding and financial statement analysis to encourage students to apply accounting concepts to real-world situations and make informed business decisions. Topics include transactions and methods of accounting for a service business as a sole proprietorship.  During Accounting 2, students will continue their study of accounting through the lens of  a merchandising business organized as a partnership. They will  journalize transactions for purchases, prepare payroll records, and prepare statements for the partnership.  An accounting simulation will be completed which mimics keeping accounting records for an event planning business.  This will be mailed to students.  Students will prepare for the *ASK Finance Certification.

Topics covered include, working with text, setting up a document, working with frames, working with color, working with placed images, creating graphics, effects, working with tabs and tables, creating books, and preparing documents for print.

This course prepares students for the Adobe® Certified Associate Photoshop CC 2015 certification.  Real-world, practical examples and step-by-step instruction throughout offer well-rounded, comprehensive coverage of both artistic and technical features. Topics covered include working with layers, making selections, incorporating color, using type, using tools, special effects and filters, and transformation. Adobe® Photoshop software will be available for students via remote download.

Agriculture Exploration

Course Description:  

This course is a Project Based Learning course (PBL). This course is designed as an exploration of the agriculture career pathways. Students will get an introduction to agriculture careers so that they can better assess which pathway to pursue. In this course students explore basic concepts in the broad areas of agribusiness and agriscience, as well as career options in each area. Students study the concepts of horticulture, natural resources, and livestock production, in addition to other common agriculture related topics. Students complete projects to develop a deeper understanding of the role of agriculture in our society.

Course Description: Students build and reinforce foundational math skills which they have not achieved mastery. They progress through carefully paced, guided instruction and engaging interactive practice. Formative assessments identify areas of weakness and prescribe lessons to improve performance. Summative assessments track progress and skill development. If needed, students can move on to Pre-Algebra to further develop the computational skills and conceptual understanding needed to undertake high school math courses with confidence.

Course Description:   This course is designed to educate and train students in the field of Pharmacy Technician. It utilizes MedCerts, which is a STRIDE-supported outside platform, and is taught in a hybrid model that uses mastery grading. Students will be given a semester course outline for independent study, but will still meet with the teacher at least once a month. The course covers the areas of prescription processing, biopharmaceutics, drug activity, types of medications, dosage calculations, and common mathematical formulas and conversions.  Students will also learn about HIPAA, drug regulation and control, inventory management, financial considerations, legal and ethical issues, sterile and non-sterile compounding, and units of measurement. After all coursework has been completed at 80% or better, the student will be able to sign up for the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam.

Course Description: Fundamental topics in this course include the design of solutions to problems through planning, writing, and implementing Java programs, the use of data structures to organize large sets of data, the development and implementation of algorithms to process data and discover new information, the analysis of potential solutions, and the ethical and social implications of computing systems. The course emphasizes object-oriented programming and design using the Java programming language.

Note:  Prepares students for the AP Computer Science A Exam.

Prerequisites: Successfully completed courses in which you studied algebra, geometry, trigonometry, analytic geometry, and elementary functions.

Course Description: This course is the equivalent of an introductory college-level calculus course. Calculus helps scientists, engineers, and financial analysts understand the complex relationships behind real-world phenomena. Students learn to evaluate the soundness of proposed solutions and apply mathematical reasoning to real-world models. Students also learn to understand change geometrically and visually (by studying graphs of curves), analytically (by studying and working with mathematical formulas), numerically (by seeing patterns in sets of numbers), and verbally. Students prepare for the AP exam and further studies in science, engineering, and mathematics.
