Course Description:  This course prepares students to take a technical college or other training program for nursing assistants.  CNA Prep ensures students have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to successfully complete a technical college or other training program for Certified Nursing Assistants.  A state exam is required to become certified and cannot be completed without first passing a state-approved program.  Students interested in learning more about the nursing or medical field may find this course beneficial.  Working as a CNA while in high school and/or college can also set the stage for a successful transition into four-year and beyond nursing and medical programs.

Course Description: This course provides learners with strategies to develop skills for success in college. Learners will work on academic skills such as test taking, note taking, reading etc. And, learners will work on other success strategies such as motivation, goal setting, interdependence, and self-awareness. Learners will apply self-management techniques, explore resource management strategies, practice study skills, and learn about ways to improve personal effectiveness. This is a dual credit course with Madison College.

Course Description:  This course focuses on enhancing college reading and study techniques and offers students extended practice in applying these strategies to a variety of college-level materials. Emphasis will be given to developing the critical thinking and reading skills necessary to be successful college readers. Topics covered will include identifying main ideas and supporting details, highlighting and annotating text, summary writing, and making inferences.

Course Description: In this course, students will learn about the principles of print and online storytelling as they relate to our communities and current events. The course defines what it means for students to become conscious media consumers. Students will learn investigative skills, responsible and ethical documentation, and writing techniques that focus on the introductory skills of journalism. In alignment with our three enduring outcomes of reading with intent, writing with purpose, and speaking with clarity, students will critically read news stories, write their own feature articles, and conduct interviews.

Course Description:  Using project-based learning, students will explore the basics of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.  Students will create documents that will enhance introductory skills such as manipulating text and images to create effective projects in both programs.  Students will understand the social and ethical issues surrounding the internet, information, and security. To be successful, students need to commit to the course timelines and guidelines.  Students will take the IC3 Certification.  This certification consists of three exams: Living Online, Computing Fundamentals, and Key Applications.

Personal Computers:  It is strongly recommended that students in this course use a Stride K12 issued computer exclusively for content in this course.

Students also examine controversies in consumer decision-making involving money, goals, emotions, charity, health, materialism, and sustainability.

Course Description: In Consumer Math, students study and review arithmetic skills they can apply in their personal lives and in their future careers. Consumer Math 1 begins with a focus on occupational topics; it includes details on jobs, wages, deductions, taxes, insurance, recreation and spending, and transportation. Narrated slideshows help illustrate some of the more difficult content. Throughout the course, students participate in online discussions with each other and their teacher.
